Paul Howard Harrison is a designer, researcher, and practitioner. Trained as both architect and engineer, his research aims to build equitable and sustainable futures through the integration of simulation, labour, and artificial intelligence. Paul directs HDR’s Design Computation Group, a team of researchers and designers headquartered in Toronto and Vancouver, and lectures at the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.
In this talk, Paul will explore the impact of integrating AI into architectural design, particularly in improving client engagement. Attendees will gain insights on ways to use generative AI to model and simulate constraints, optimize architecture, and co-design with clients using AI.
Key outcomes of the presentation include:
· Understanding the benefits of integrating AI into architectural design, including the ability to model constraints and predict the future
· Learning how to leverage AI tools to engage clients in the design process and co-create more holistic solutions
· Gaining insights on responsible use of AI in architectural design, including considerations around bias embedded in models and communication strategies to alleviate existing inequalities
