The Honorable Maritza Dominguez Braswell is one of seven full-time United States Magistrate Judges in the District of Colorado. She is a leading voice on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession. Judge Braswell is passionate about innovation and believes AI could have a positive impact on efficiency, quality of work, quality of life, and access to justice. She regularly speaks and writes on AI, highlighting that the positive outcomes of tomorrow, will depend on the careful choices of today. Judge Braswell’s perspective is shaped by a diverse set of experiences. Prior to law school, she worked with underserved communities where she learned the importance of taking a human-centered approach to problem-solving. Then, as a litigator handling multi-million and multi-billion dollar disputes, she learned to navigate the intricacies of complex litigation and multi-faceted disputes. She eventually co-founded a tech-forward litigation firm where she and her clients saw firsthand how technology enhances legal work. When Judge Braswell was appointed to the Colorado Attorney General’s leadership team, she was responsible for one of the largest departments in the office and oversaw hundreds of cases with statewide impact. There, she gained extensive experience leading change, building responsive systems, and driving sustainable innovation within government. Judge Braswell’s effective leadership and community contributions have earned her notable recognition throughout her career, including being named among Colorado’s Top 25 Most Powerful Women and featured in publications like the Denver Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 and Latino Leaders Magazine. Judge Braswell believes the role of lawyers and judges will evolve, but nevertheless remain crucial in an AI-integrated future.
